KARACHI: Collection of income tax on exports declined 12 percent during the first quarter of the current fiscal year of 2020/21 as laggard outbound shipments were further affected by lockdowns related to coronavirus, sources said on Monday.

The Federal Board of Revenue’s (FBR) income tax collection from exports fell to Rs1.55 billion during the first quarter of the current fiscal year as compared with Rs1.77 billion in the corresponding period of the last fiscal year.

Officials at Large Taxpayers Office (LTO) Karachi said the tax collection under the head of export witnessed decline due to lower export receipts following falling demand in the international markets.

LONDON: The English media  is seeing a "strong" possibility of England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) accepting the Pakistan Cricket Board's (PCB) proposal for sending England team to Pakistan for a brief tour in January 2021.

This has been stated in a report appeared in   one of the UK's  leading newspapers The Guardian  on Saturday.

Vic Marks, a former cricketer who is now a correspondent for The Guardian, writes that the PCB's proposal, drafted by CEO Wasim Khan and backed by its robust security arrangements, will make it "very hard" for the ECB to say no to.

"It would be startling if the ECB responded with a blunt: 'Sorry. ... We are very busy this winter'," Marks writes.

The columnist paid homage to Pakistan's "capacity to survive and prosper as a cricketing nation despite playing the vast majority of their international matches away from home" adding that Pakistan "surely deserves England’s support".

He also said that the visiting England players can expect "the warmest of welcomes" in Pakistan, recalling how they had played the gracious host on his last trip to the country even after Ian Botham's extremely controversial comments featuring grandmothers that saw him sent back to England.

Marks does, however, say that scheduling conflicts, especially with England's subsequent commitments and the Big Bash League could be a problem, although it's nothing that cannot be worked out.

"Love to #Pakistan & #Turkey is boundless in #Azerbaijan, and requirements for Pakistani flag are also increased," tweeted the ambassador, thanking Pakistan and Turkey for openly siding with Baku in its conflict with Armenia.

Soon after the conflict, images from Baku were shown in which residents were displaying flags of Pakistan and Turkey after both nations supported the country in its fight against Armenia.

Pakistan assures Azerbaijan of support on Nagorno-Karabakh conflict

Last week, Pakistan expressed "deep concern" on the deteriorating security situation in Nagorno-Karabakh region after Armenian forces' intensive shelling over the weekend on the civilian population of Azerbaijan.

The Armenian forces attacked the villages of Terter, Aghdam, Fizuli and Jabrayil region and Pakistan considers it reprehensible and most unfortunate, a statement from the Foreign Office had said.

"This could compromise peace and security of the entire region. Armenia must stop its military action to avoid further escalation," it had demanded.

"Pakistan stands with the brotherly nation of Azerbaijan and supports its right of self-defence," the FO had said.
